Yeah, I cancelled a show...

Ello!

Yeah, so you probably noticed that I cancelled last Saturday's show on short notice. No major reason, just that I was under the weather and wasn't in the chipper form I like to be when I'm doing a show.

So, I've scheduled another show for this coming Saturday instead. Hope to see you there! And there will be a live cam feed - probably using Veetle again. More details on the night - remember to look at the IRC channel's topic header!

The Times, They Are Becoming Slightly Different

Ello!

As I've mentioned on the previous couple of BBBs, a Real Life incident has occurred that necessitates a change in schedule. I have an assignment that will take me out of Gothenburg - for 100% of the week for the first month, then at 60% (i.e. three days) from then until sometime mid-summer.

So, for the first month (starting this Monday), there will be no BBB shows on a Wednesday. Depending on how I feel, there may be an impromptu show sometime over the weekends, or there may be a Friday Frolics / Saturday Silliness with Leoni, but definitely no Wednesday BBB.

Depending on how I make up this 60% after the first month, the BBB should be back on a Wednesday. If, however, I have to change things a bit, I might have to do it on (for example) a Thursday instead, up until the assignment finishes.

This is going to be an odd time for me - I've done the BBB for eight years on a Wednesday, so it's going to feel like something is missing in my life for a bit. But I hope you understand - the assignment I'm on, while I can't go into detail because of Non-Disclosure, is going to be exciting, even though it's going to be weird to live in a hotel for a month or so!

I'll try and keep you all updated with any news. In the meantime, keep SLAY Radio going by listening to the rotational and the other broadcasters when you can!

Remixer of the Year 2012 Award Show Re-Scheduled

Ello!

Some of you hopefully noticed that it is SLAY Radio's turn to host the RotY awards this year. This was an award ceremonty started by the remix64.com guys to give awards to best remixer, best remix (C64 / Amiga) etc.

The event was supposed to be tonight (2013-02-17) at 20:00 CET, but there's illness in the Staff Ranks, so we've decided to re-schedule the ceremony. Not only does this mean that we'll be in better health, but we've taken the opportunity to change the day and time to be a little easier for more people to listen to.

The new date is Saturday February 23 and the new time is 18:00 CET (17:00 UTC). It seems that it's just been tradition that it's been on a Sunday, but we're going to change that!

Anyway, we hope you can come along to the awards ceremony at the new date and time.

Swedish (and Danish) Films to Watch

Ello!

I thought I'd post something a little different on this blog, other than the usual "hello I've had to cancel the show" that I seem to be doing a lot. So, I thought I'd share with you a few Swedish films (and one Danish) that I've watched and enjoyed. They're all subtitled - so if you don't like watching subtitled films, you may want to avoid them. I seem to have gotten used to having subtitles though.

All of these films are comedy dramas; they're not slapstick and they deal with life issues but with a "dark" comedic side. I've included IMDb links for further information.

Tomten är Far till Alla Barnen (1999)

The literal translation is "Santa is Father to All the Children", but they decided to release it as "In Bed With Santa". It involves wife Sara who decides to invite her three ex-husbands (and their families) for a big Christmas celebratory dinner. The new neighbours want to introduce themselves too.

Bröllopsfotografen (2009)

"The Wedding Photographer" is about a guy who works in a factory in an "outback" town. When it closes down, he takes his chances at becoming a wedding photographer in Stockholm, thanks to a chance meeting with an out-of-work actor trying to make money by appearing as a speaker at other functions.

Jalla! Jalla! (2000)

Swedish immigrant Roro loves his girlfriend but is pressured into marrying another girl to stop her from being sent back to Lebanon. His friend is also having problems in the bedroom department. The title is Arabic for "Hurry, hurry!" and the film also stars actress-turned-singer Laleh.

Fyra År Till (2010)

"Four More Years" centers around party political leader David Holst and his attempt at being the next Prime Minister, only to fail and fall in love with someone he absolutely shouldn't do.

Blinkende Lygter (2000)

"Flickering Lights" is a Danish film about four gangsters who con their boss out of 4 million crowns. They're escaping to Barcelona but are forced to temporarily hide out in a run-down house in the country for a few weeks. They slowly realise they want to stay there, but their past starts to catch up.

So, if you can put up with subtitles, these are my tips if you want to watch something that isn't labelled as "mainstream Hollywood".

No Show 2013-01-23

Ello everyone!

Just a heads-up that there's no show this week (2013-01-23). Mainly because it's my first week back at work after a long January vacation and it's taking me time to get back into the swing of things!

I should be back next week as usual though!
