Christmas special (and ooh, I should have said something)

Oops... I should have added a blog entry. In fact I thought I had but alas! Sorry, last night's show was cancelled; I had too much Real Life stuff going on I'm afraid.

But fear thee not: The Christmas Special edition of BBB is next Wednesday, 16th December. A little early yes, but the next wee is 23rd and I'll be away by then.

So, join me for xBBB (that's xmas BBB - the x doesn't deserve to be upper-case ;)) on Wednesday 16th December 2009, normal time. And if you don't know what the normal time is, it's 20:00 CET / 19:00 UTC... but you already knew that, of course...

The BBB so far

The SLAY Radio Gathering is here!

It's that time of year again - actually one week late according to tradition - that we get the broadcasters and listeners together for the SLAY Radio Gathering. Seeing as SLAY HQ is based in Gothenburg, that's where the gathering takes place, around Kvilletorget on Hisingen, Gothenburg's biggest island.

Saturday is the main day, with a barbecue up on Keillers Park in the daytime, and then we have the private room in the back of Kville Biljard (link in Swedish). There's also the UOPGG (Unofficially Official Pre-Gathering Gathering) also at Kville Biljard on Friday night (that's tonight!), which has turned out to be a better time to actually chat and catch up on things, as the main day's all about the radio station and Commodore 64 remixes.

Well, I hope you liked the super-extended "Vacation Edition" BBB last night as much as I enjoyed broadcasting it. A nice "DJ Mix" at the end as well, even though that's not what I do usually.

Anyway, just to remind you of what I mentioned on the show: I will not be doing a BBB next Wednesday (15th July) as I will be away on vacation. The week after (22nd) is undecided at the moment as it depends on how tired I am when I get back. Keep subscribed to this feed to know the latest!

Vacation Edition coming up

Well, it's about this time that Sverige AB closes for summer - i.e., most Swedes go on vacation and usually for at least 4 weeks.

Being an honorary Swede now, I'm no exception. The show on 2009-07-08 will be my Vacation Edition, as I'll be off work from this day onward for a bit. I'm going to be busy for the next couple of Wednesdays, so there will be a short break from the usual schedule.

Just to remind you that there is no BBB this Wednesday, the main reason being that I'm being paid a visit by the parents for the rest of the week from Wednesday evening!

Visiting Norway

This is the exact moment when we crossed the border between Sweden and Norway. We're visiting Linda's family on her mother's side for the weekend. It takes about 4 hours by car from Gothenburg to Oslo. It's great having a 3G phone!

Just to warn you that there will *probably* not be a BBB this Wednesday. The main reason is that we're getting a visit from The Grandparents and it happens to unfortunately be on the same night. 

However, this may change, so keep your fingers crossed (if you're a fan) or make a prayer to the grandparents (if you're not)!

First of all, sorry I didn't do a show last night - in the end the weather was soooo nice that we threw a slab o' meat onto the barbecue and then bathed in the spa instead. 

But, we know you guys like to have a live show, so we're going to do one TONIGHT (Thursday 30th April) at the usual time of 20:00 CEST instead. Yes, "we" - Linda is going to try and come along to insult you guys too!

Know Your Swedish Road Signs #89

Yes folks, it's time for another(?) enthralling(!) episode of KYSRS. Here's something you should be aware of -- assuming you don't already know this very common sign:

Yes, gentle reader: it means "crossing ski-track". It's a bit like the image of a horse in England, which warns you that horses may be crossing. Only this particular sign warns you that you may be attacked by a strange thick-thighed old man wearing a Yorkshire flat cap, apparently.

This is why Volvo invented SIPS (which stands for Ski Impact Protection System*). 

*No, it doesn't. Almost though.

The curry house wot I used to nosh at

I just went onto Google Maps to see if the photo montage thingy had been updated. Seeing as it's been almost a year since I had tried, there were definitely some updates!

This picture is on the A243 Hook Road in Chessington. Before I moved up to Worcester (so, before The Z Show) I used to live 15 minutes' walk from The Red Rose of Chessington for about 10 years. It was my local curry house and a regular place for me to go. Great food and, judging by the photo, it's still there. One thing of note is the Woolworth's, a couple of doors up, that went into liquidation recently. Ah, Woolworth's. You sold many a late "have no idea what to buy for xxx" Christmas present to me!

Here's another picture nearer to where I lived - in fact, just behind the house you can see next to the trees on the left. Therefore, The Harrow (taking up most of the picture) was my local pub, which was also a restaurant. The Chortles Gang (me and Kenz, Skitz, Lee and Mez who you'd know from The Z Show, along with Annifer) spent many an hour here!

Unfortunately it's not updated enough to show you where The Z Show started transmission. Maybe one day when Google has taken over the world and photographed everything... ;)
